Scarce early volume of the government Gazette. Important primary source for New Zealand history. 35 issues, complete for the year 1858. vii, [1], 207 pages. Page dimensions: 316 x 197mm. Contemporary half calf binding with cloth boards. Binding fair. Cloth worn and stained, and lifting from boards at corners. Cloth on rear board very faded, and lifting from lower part of board. Leather joints in very good condition. Internally good. The Governor of New Zealand at this time was Colonel Thomas Gore Browne."Whereas conflicts between armed parties of Aboriginal Natives have recently taken place at New Plymouth, to the danger and alarm of Her Majesty's subjects who are engaged in their lawful occupations. Now, therefore, I, the Governor, of New Zealand, do hereby proclaim and declare that all persons whosoever who shall unlawfully assmble with Arms within the boundaries of the District described in the Schedule to this Proclamation, will, without further notice, be treated as persons in Arms against the Queen's Authority, and active measrues will be forthwith taken against them by Her Majesty's Civil Authorities and Military Forces."- Governor's Proclamation in issue number 5, February 12, 1858. ; Folio
